Name:
Jura’s tenmoku cup #014622
Content and size of the cup:
80 ml, opening diameter 8,5 cm, height 4 cm
About this piece:
An unique porcelain wood fired tenmoku style cup. I like the inner upper brown edge, filling the cup where the inner part is white makes a nice effect. This cup colouring has outside one part going to green and blue shades. Inside edge of brown going to caramel and then greenish tones.
This piece shape is a bit distorted due the heat in the kiln during firing, some piece simply change their shape. Still I find it very unique as in nature nothing is regular.
Tenmoku style glaze is applied to a porcelain slip. Ten moku literally ‘Heaven’s Eye’ temple in China where iron glazed tea cups were used/originate. These (mostly) cups made fame in second half of 14th century Japan.
Myself I like a lot these natural brown coloured ceramics that have for me a kind of soft and warm touch and are pleasure to drink old tea.
