I never was a big of factory made Tuochas until I tasted some nearly 30 years old ones from my friend Vic in Taiwan. Slowly my attitude was changing and thought these nests need time, time to age, time to ripen these tightly compressed teas. They start to loosen after 30 years and this is the time to drink them. When smokiness, tobacco hints gets tolarable even liked, still a good material of tea leaves is a must. All in all you have to like this old time tea, some might say old coffin, old cupboard, all these things but still enjoyable, there is no trace of unpleasant flavours once the tea swalowed in the mounth. Very intense mounthfeel, a very good aging character achieved by the tight compression of leaves.

I feel that one who drinks pu-erh should try this toucha. It was made in 1997, a year when Hong Kong was returned to China and a big year when changes in pu-erh industry started to take place. It was stored most of its time in drier storage in Taiwan and it is different from similar tuochas stored in Hong Kong. This one keeps its aroma and it was rather aged in a slower motion but the final effect in the future could be tremendous. Even its current price tag is already higher but it is perfect ‘benchmark’ for anyone to try a well made toucha to have the taste experience for future purchases, to have it compared with. No worries, you will remember it.
