I thought to make this sample set as I got two new cakes, the number 1 and number 2. The number 2 is the same as the one listed before still this one was kept in Guangzhou storage the whole time as the one mentioned was kept the last 10 years or so in middle european storage.

This is a great comparison of various productions of Liming tea factory, Bajiaoting branch, the first 3 teas, the last one is a different factory so that again nice to see the differences.

I have realized that the private order or let’s say special friend’s order* puerh teas, some of those from Taiwan I have listed have a hand/foot pressing of cakes. The cakes are more nice (tea leaves), not machine pressed as the number 1 and number 2. The number 4 I am not able to say but looks like looser machine pressed one.

Here with these very good material/maochas used I simply can’t say which is better. Both machine and hand pressed cakes have their own characteristics. Also we can see the machine pressed factory teas composition of leaves is not that selected, like more ‘mess’ is pressed into them and there was no extra tea leaves refining (pick out the huangpian an stems) step in them. Again this might not affect the final taste and in some point may enrich it.

I suggest if buying this sample set add some grams of Lao Banzhang 2006 (or 2005 or 2003) to it so that your old (aged) Bulang experience to be complete.

*this means that such friend’s order is not accessible in sale channels (regular tea shops) rather kept stored for many years and then could be found in some small shops that will sell not only big and small factories puerh cakes rather ‘specialities’
